So much has been said and written about former Osun State deputy governor, Erelu Olusola Obada, who is also the Minister of State for Defence. But not many people know about the man who makes her tick. Expectedly her husband, Dr.Felix Babatunde Obada, is not a pushover.
From Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State, in September 2003, he pioneered the creation of the National eGovernment initiative as a Public-Private Partnership between the Federal Government and the Organised Private Sector. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of a biofuel company.
Dr Obada is the Group Managing Director and
Chief Executive Officer of Global Biofuels Limited. He holds a Doctor of
Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Materials Management from Pacific Western
University, Los Angeles, USA.
He started his
professional engineering career at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
(NNPC) in 1977 and retired in 1995 as a Chief Engineer and Visiting Consultant
in the Corporate Planning Department of the company.
He later became the
pioneer Director-General and Chief Executive of the Materials Management
Institute of Nigeria between 1996 and 1998 and served as a Consultant to the
University of Surrey Space Centre, United Kingdom, between 2000 and 2003.
Among his
accomplishments, Dr. Obada successfully engineered the entrance of Nigeria into
the space industry by facilitating the design and launch of Nigeria’s first
Satellite (NigeriaSat-1) working with the University of Surrey and the Federal
Ministry of Science & Technology.
In September 2003, Dr.
Obada again pioneered the creation of the National eGovernment initiative as a
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Federal Government and the
Organized Private Sector (OPS). He was appointed the Managing Director of the
Company in March 2004. He resigned his appointment in February, 2006.
Following global
outcry against Green House Gas emissions, Dr Obada again pioneered the entrance
of Nigeria into the Renewable Energy industry, by facilitating the development
of automotive biofuels production from agricultural wastes not used for food by
humans or animals, working with such notable Institutions as the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), The Nigerian Import-Export Bank (NEXIM);
Institute of Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University; Ecowas Bank for
Investment and Development (EBID); The African Biofuels and Renewable Energy
Fund (ABREF), just to mention a few. His biofuels initiative has been acclaimed
globally as capable of becoming a Nigerian-led job creation and poverty
eradication solution.
Dr Obada is the Acting
Director General and Chief Executive of the Green Energy Society of Nigeria
(GESON), the umbrella body of renewable energy (wind, hydro, solar, Biofuels)
producers of Nigeria. He is a member of the body recently constituted by
Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dr Rilwan Lukman to advise
government on the specifications and operational guidelines for the
implementation of the biofuels policy in Nigeria
Dr. Obada is a Fellow
