Image
The Nigerian Army have recalled about 3000 soldiers that were relieved of their jobs because they refused to fight Boko Haram. The soldiers refused fighting the sect because they said they lacked the appropriate weapons to engage the sect members and win the battle. According to Daily Trust, the soldiers are currently being screened at the Jaji military cantonment in Kaduna State. “The soldiers are all there in Jaji cantonment awaiting their turns to be screened by the committee and whoever scales through might be recalled. It was their prayer that if General Muhammadu Buhari becomes president, he might recall them. These soldiers are trained and it is very dangerous and wasteful if the federal government terminates their employments,” a source said. The polio vaccine can protect a child against the disease for life Nigeria has made a vital step towards being declared polio free, after marking a year without a recorded case. It can now be taken off the list of countries where the disease is endemic, if the World Health Organization (WHO) confirms the results. Nigeria had struggled to contain polio since some northern states imposed a ban on vaccinations in 2003. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries to record cases in 2015. Global health experts are hoping polio can become only the second human infectious disease to be eradicated, after smallpox. Don’t ruin your liver with harmful habits.

Image
In humans, the liver is very important because of the numerous functions it performs. Scientists say this vital organ, being one of the largest in humans, detoxifies the body by ridding it of harmful substances, while it also produces the biochemical substances that are necessary for proper digestion of food. The presence of a healthy liver in the body is what makes the blood what it is, experts say, as the liver produces the albumin – a major component of blood serum. A General Practitioner, Dr. Daniel Ogunboyejo, says when a woman is pregnant, in the first three months, the liver is the main site of red blood cell production in the foetus. And even after the baby is born, this organ produces the hormone that plays an important role in the child’s growth and continues to aid the building up of organs and tissues in adults. Ogunboyejo also notes that when a person’s blood pressure becomes low (hypotension), the liver, working in tandem with the kidneys, produces angioten...
